How Did I Get Here?

How did I get here? Where am I headed? These are all questions that cropped up for me after indecisiveness throughout college, unexpected career opportunities in corporate, a pivot to a new industry, and a switch from corporate to small business. I think more people than not have these same questions floating in either the forefront of their thoughts or in the back of their mind during the occasional existential moment. I’m here to put these thoughts out in the open where many aren’t willing to voice them by taking you through the journey of my many changes in course and lessons I’ve learned along the way. I am 29 years old, and I’m here to say that I’m still trying to figure out what to do with my life.

To give you some background about myself, I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and I went back for more fun, earning a Master’s degree in Finance from my alma mater in 2020. I’m a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and have completed Six Sigma Black Belt training. I was an All-State athlete in high school, made Vice President by the time I was 25, and have earned several awards and promotions along the way. So I should have it all figured out right?

Despite what everyone sees on paper and what everyone would expect given my background, I do not have it all figured out. I’m here to say to anyone that’s feeling the same way that THAT’S TOTALLY OKAY! I’ve made countless (I mean okay… you can technically count them) pivots in my career over the past several years, and I haven’t regretted a single one. Each one has taught me a variety of skills and lessons, introduced me to some amazing colleagues, mentors, and friends, and has ultimately moved me closer to what I believe will be my true calling. Do I know what that is yet? Nope. Not a clue. But I have faith that the rollercoaster I’ve been on so far has yielded some amazing results and so the one ahead of me is bound to do the same.

My journey, albeit a bit unconventional, has afforded me the opportunity to cram a variety of different adventures into a fairly short amount of time. As such, I’m thrilled to be able to share my experiences with you in the hopes that they can help you to feel validated or help you to take your own inspired actions, big or small, by:

1) providing tactical lessons learned based on my experience in both corporate America and now small business,

2) bringing perspective to those that may be considering career shifts, and

3) empathizing with those other souls that think they should have it all figured out by now but don’t.

I hope that my story can help you feel understood, validated, challenged, and inspired. I look forward to our journey together and our mutual growth, and I thank you for coming along with me!
