Why Your Ghostwriter Needs to Share Your Intention

The importance of a solid ghostwriter and author match cannot be emphasized enough. I’ve talked about it before, and I’ll talk about it again. Today, I want to talk about the importance of the alignment of intention between the author and ghostwriter.

While vibes are important, intention goes a layer deeper. Intention relates to the impact the book will make. The goal of writing a book frequently isn’t to make money off of book sales. The author has some other intention for the impact they want to make, whether that’s lead generation for their business, helping others through similar experiences, etc.

It’s important that the author find a ghostwriter who can help fulfill this intention, but it’s also crucial that the fit goes both ways. The ghostwriter should also be fully invested in the end goal as it relates to the project. Without this alignment, the project will fall flat on its face and the partnership will not be a pleasant experience. Let’s talk more about that.

More Authenticity

When there is an alignment of intention between the ghostwriter and author, there is increased space for authenticity. The ability for both parties to show up authentically creates an environment for a high-impact end product.

When the author shows up authentically, they are more willing and able to tap into parts of themselves that will really make the book resonate with their readers. Their own energy will come through the words, they’ll be more willing to be vulnerable in their sharing, and the flow of thoughts and ideas will be more readily available.

It’s equally important that the ghostwriter can show up authentically as well. This allows the ghostwriter to create a space that allows the author to be vulnerable, helps the ghostwriter be fully present and engaged, and enables the ghostwriter to think more clearly and creatively.

A Book is Forever

The cool thing about writing a book is that it lives on in perpetuity. The potentially daunting aspect of writing a book is that it lives on in perpetuity.

When an author chooses a ghostwriter who is aligned with their intention, they are choosing someone who will help them through any doubts or concerns they may have along their journey. They are there to support them and reassure them that what they have to share is important and needs to be put on the page.

This alignment is equally important for the ghostwriter. As a ghostwriter, I want my lasting impact to be a positive one. I am keenly aware of the impact of my work and my responsibility to leave the world a better place than I found it. Anything not aligned with that is not something I will feel good about writing.

Higher Quality

When it comes down to it, both parties being in alignment ultimately leads to a higher quality book. There’s more excitement, more passion, and more authenticity being poured into the project. This shows up in the book.

There is more energy in the words on the page, there is more vulnerability in the stories being shared, and there’s increased urgency to get the lessons being imparted out into the world. This ultimately makes the book resonate more with readers which increases its reach and impact.

This creates a win-win-win situation for the author, the readers, and the ghostwriter. While the first two wins may be obvious, you may be wondering about the third win for the ghostwriter. After all, the ghostwriter is typically paid upfront for their work. But there’s a huge satisfaction for the ghostwriter in knowing they made a positive impact on their client and readers (not to mention it doesn’t hurt referrals).
