No matter where you stand on the “energy” spectrum, few would debate that everyone has a “vibe”. Some people you connect with pretty effortlessly and some people are more of a struggle.
“I love your energy” (or some similar statement) is one of my favorite pieces of feedback to get.
Appreciating someone’s vibe or energy creates such a solid foundation for a relationship, no matter what the nature of that relationship is.
Today we’re going to talk about the importance of working with people who share a similar vibe to you and the benefits to both sides of aligning with people that make you say “Heck yes!”.
Vibes are inclusive
Let me start by addressing a potential objection right off the bat that aligning with people who have similar vibes is exclusive and keeps you in a circle with people similar to you. Couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Because only working with people who are clones of you is actually detrimental.
The whole reason you are looking to work with someone else is because you are complementary in some way. Either you are looking to hire someone with a skill you lack or vice versa.
But even more than this, diversity in background and experiences can bring new perspective to your project/engagement. This ultimately results in more expansiveness.
And the beautiful thing is that you can still share a vibe no matter how varied your backgrounds are.
Vibes create more flow and ease
If you are working with someone who shares a similar vibe to you, you are creating an ideal environment to foster greater creativity. Instead of being blocked by something like a different style of work, you’re able to get into the flow of the project with minimum obstacles to create the best possible product.
Aligning vibes also helps to create more efficiencies when you are operating in a similar way with someone; there is less debate about how to handle certain decisions or the “right” way to go about doing something.
Greater efficiency leads to more effectiveness which ultimately feels like more ease within your engagement.
Vibes help bring joy to the journey
If you’re working with someone who just drains you every time you have to interact with them, you’re not going to have much joy during that project or engagement.
This goes both ways.
If you are providing services, you want to partner with someone who appreciates what you bring to the table, is fun, and is easy to work with. This allows you to in turn appreciate the opportunities that come from your working partnership.
If you are hiring someone into your business as an employee or contractor, you want them to bring the same energy that you are bringing every day. After all, you’re enlisting them into your passion and purpose.
The fun and ease that come with sharing similar vibes allow all sides to find joy in the journey. This creates focus on the process rather than pressure on the outcome. It affords both sides the opportunity to really lean into their purpose. And this all creates more opportunities for growth on both sides.
