Have you ever considered writing a book and immediately dismissed the thought because you weren’t sure where to start, how to organize your thoughts, or how to fill the pages?
Similar to many business ventures, aspiring authors try to work through these questions in their minds before they put “pen to paper”. It’s the classic trap of trying to figure everything out before you start.
But the magic happens when you start to put pen to paper. Now, I’m not advocating to just start writing chapter 1 and power through. I’m talking about the power of creating a roadmap.
In fact, a roadmap is so powerful for an aspiring author that I offer a free road mapping session for anyone seriously considering the idea of writing their own book or hiring a ghostwriter to write their book.
So what’s so special about this roadmap?
Organizing your thoughts
The most obvious benefit to road mapping your book is that it starts to organize all the thoughts in your head. When you get these thoughts out on paper, you can start to see them all in one place, which allows you to see themes, potential story ties, etc.
As you start to see themes emerge, you also start to get a grasp on how you may want to sequence your book, which gives rise to additional concepts and ideas that you may want to add into the mix.
Furthermore, writing all these thoughts down helps to free up your mind for other sparks of information so that you aren’t subconsciously trying to hold and organize them. By writing them down, you’ve put them in a spot for safekeeping.
Fostering self-belief
When you see all your amazing thoughts on paper, chances are that you’re going to realize that you can, in fact, write a book. By getting the thoughts on paper, you see how much knowledge you have on the topic at hand.
You can also start to see how all this knowledge ties into a beautiful collection of thoughts, stories, and lessons. You can see how a book can help you fulfill your purpose and make a true impact.
And all this fosters your desire and self-belief in this project which may have been a dream that you now believe you can bring into reality.
Creating an execution plan
One of the biggest benefits of creating a roadmap is that it helps you to create a plan for execution. At this point, you’re probably breathing a big sigh of relief.
Once you see your roadmap on paper, you can see exactly how you need to move forward. You have a clear vision of the milestones that your writing and storytelling will revolve around and can craft a more detailed outline.
And after you finish that outline, you free up the space in your mind that was so focused on planning that you can now focus on creative execution, meaning… all there’s left to do is get writing!
As a ghostwriter and coach, I can help you through this process and get you going on your way. I offer free road mapping sessions to help you get organized and see that you can in fact write a book.
This is a beautiful start to a ghostwriting or coaching relationship should you decide you want a helping hand, and if you want to just take it from there, the roadmap is yours to keep, no strings attached!
