How to be Unshakeable When Taking on a New Venture

Venturing down the path of starting your own business is a whole mixed bag of emotions. It’s exciting, liberating, and empowering, but it can also be filled with doubt, uncertainty, and the occasional anxiety.

This grab bag of emotions becomes particularly prevalent when you say yes to a new opportunity, which may include working with new skills, industries, people, etc. It’s easier to remain steady in your energy when you are working in your “known” world, but it becomes more challenging as you step into the unknown.

So in an effort to limit our draining emotions and foster the emotions that energize us, there are various ways that we can set ourselves up for success in being unshakeable. We can always figure it out, but there are ways that we can make this process much easier on ourselves.

Invest in yourself

Investing in yourself and truly committing to that investment will always pay off. Sometimes this is in the form of direct ROI and sometimes it’s an indirect linkage stemming from mindset development, etc.

A significant part of developing my unshakeable belief when taking on new challenges has been that I hire coaches. These coaches help me with both the tactical and the mindset aspects of what I’m taking on. When I take on a new opportunity, I know I have them there to provide whatever guidance I may need.

While coaching is a big investment, you can also invest in yourself by finding resources relevant to your ventures, which could include books, podcasts, articles, etc. Intentional curation of these resources will help to both teach you new skills and raise your vibrations.

Finally, you can invest in yourself by meditating, exercising, eating right, etc. These activities help prime both your mind and body to excel in new challenges that you are taking on. Our body and thoughts are key drivers to how we behave so it’s foundational to give ourselves the utmost care.

Network, network, network

It is game-changing to be intentional about networking. It’s important to continuously be developing this network and not just waiting until a challenge arises. This ensures authentic connection rather than simply a transactional relationship.

Now more than ever, it is easier to make new connections. And while technology often creates a facade of connection, it is also easier than ever to make genuine connections. When connecting from a place of authenticity, you’d be surprised at how willing others are to help you.

And if you’re finding that others are not willing to help you, you may not be networking in the right circles. It’s important to connect with others who want to pull others up to the top with them and not those who are operating from a place of lack.

A thriving network can help you to problem solve, bounce ideas, share experiences, and connect you with others who may be able to help collaborate with you or educate you on your new ventures.

Get started

You gain confidence by doing, not by researching.

Part of figuring it out and becoming unshakable is to just start doing the d*mn thing! Once you start, you are able to solicit feedback, figure out what works and doesn’t work in your process, and recalibrate from there.

I’d also be willing to bet that you will have done better than you realized or imagined possible during your research phase. This is how you build confidence… seeing the fruits of your creation, seeing the impact they make, and letting it snowball from there.

It’s important to remember that YOU WILL GET FEEDBACK. No one is perfect, and the beginnings can be particularly messy as you learn. But it’s critical to not take this personally. While getting constructive feedback doesn’t always feel good, it’s imperative for improvement. And the more you do the thing and the more feedback you get, the easier it becomes to detach your identity from the feedback.

So if you’ve been contemplating a new opportunity or venture, I’m confident that these three areas can help support you in becoming unshakeable in taking on that challenge.

If writing a book is the venture that’s been nagging at you, you’re in the perfect place!
