Why a Book is a Great Way to Amplify Your Impact

What motivates someone to write a book?

We’ve talked a lot about the many benefits to the author of writing a book: brand building, demonstration of thought leadership, opening doors to new opportunities, and generating more qualified leads…. To name just a few.

And those are amazing!

But what I’ve anecdotally seen through my experience is that one of the main drivers of the desire to write a book is to truly make a positive impact on others. And what better way to do this than making that knowledge and message super accessible through a book?

I always leave ghostwriting discovery calls feeling so energized about how much good others want to put out into the world.

So let’s step away from our regularly scheduled programming of how awesome writing a book is for your personal and professional brand and talk about why you may want to write a book so you can create a positive impact in the world.

Amplify your reach

Books are a great way to reach a larger audience than you’d normally be able to through your services alone. For example, coaches and consultants can only take on so many clients at a time, even if they hire a team.

Sure, you can post on social media, but it’s a much different depth and style of content than a book. Typically, you’ll be limited by the length of a caption or a video. And even if there aren’t limitations put in place by the platform, you’ll still probably be catering to the algorithm and social media attention spans.

Books, however, are a great long-form way to convey your message and share your knowledge. And when people pick up a book, they are not only expecting but also desiring that depth and length of content.

And now, books are available in so many formats that you’re able to reach people who aren’t traditional readers but may listen to your book on the way to work or on their summer road trip.

Share your unique experiences

Sure there may be other books written about the topic you feel compelled to write about, but the human experience is unique.

Your experience and the lens through which you view the topic at hand will add a different flavor and flare to the content and messaging in your book.

And guess what? Chances are that the flavor and flare that you bring to the topic will resonate deeply with a particular audience and cause them to have their a-ha moment just as you had yours.

Different types of messaging click with people in different ways. Your book could be the difference maker for someone who has lived through similar circumstances.

Fill a knowledge gap

Sometimes you just can’t find a resource on exactly what you need when you need it. You might be able to patch some information together but that’s time-consuming and requires immense energy.

While you went through the pain of having to figure it out yourself, a book is a fantastic way to help others avoid the same pain by making this knowledge easily accessible to them in a format that they can reference over and over again.

It’s like the old adage goes… if you have a question, chances are someone else has it too. You have the power to help answer those questions in a reliable way.
